Welcome to Downfall

Can you believe we’re just a few months away from Downfall? We’ve got so much planned, and can’t wait to show all of you what we have in store! Now that we’ve gotten the official announcement out of the way, we wanted to take a moment to talk about Guides, and the role that they’ll play in this event.

Guides are trusted individuals who, instead of their 4-hour NPC shift, do a 4-hour Guide shift. This is a more trusted role that involves guiding NPCs to the appropriate locations, helping them with costuming and makeup, and also being more of a team lead during the event.

Many of you who normally play Dystopia Rising: Live may have an idea of what Guides do. However, the Guides for this upcoming event have slightly different roles, due to how we’ve designed this event. With that in mind, we’re going to take a quick look at each role, and what you can expect if you want to get a bit more involved (if you already know you want to be involved, you can also skip to filling out this Guide form).

Story Desk / Ops Guide

These are the project managers of the Guide world. They manage the story desk make sure modules go out, and ensure things run smoothly. They work closely with Field and Genre Guides, and may also be required to act as a Field Guide if needed.

Field Guide

These are the Guides that go out into the field to make sure rules are followed, report back on plot, and ensure NPCs know where they're going. These individuals can brief NPCs with their stats, and also are responsible for helping Story Desk if things get hectic.

Genre Guide

These are Guides who ensure every NPC is costumed appropriately, has great makeup, knows the role-play of the character they're portraying, and provides role-play tips, as needed. They work closely with both the Story Desk Guides and Field Guides and know the genre backwards and forwards. Zombie and raider makeup experience is recommended. These individuals are also responsible for making sure things are tidy, and also providing acting tips.

Coordination Guide

These are Guides that help with writing cards and manning the Public Works during the event. This requires a head for rules. This is a sedentary role.

Role-play facilitator

These are Guides who are cast as a specific NPC to portray during the course of the event, and who have major sway in the town. They should expect to costume the NPC, and will be taking an extended NPC shift for these characters. These are highly social roles, and require someone to be comfortable with high-stakes drama and conflict. There will be scheduled meetings ahead of time for these roles so everyone can get to know their parts, character goals, and get to know one another as people. These individuals will help guide story during the event.

Perks for Guides

We recognize that Guides put a lot of time and effort into an event, even if their shift is just as long as a regular NPC shift. With that in mind, we’ve developed some special perks for Guides during this event. All guides will receive:

  • Discounted Ticket

  • 1 Free Build

  • Event-Specific Swag

Perks for Role-play Facilitators

Our Role-play Facilitators will be putting in long hours as the specific characters they’re portraying, which are extremely important to the plotlines of the event - with that in mind, they’ll receive:

  • Discounted Ticket

  • 1 Free Build

  • Event-Specific Swag

Becoming Part of the Team

Now that we’ve given you a rundown of what kind of Guides there are and what perks they receive, there’s one last thing we want to mention: fun. Our goal is to make sure that no matter if you’re a NPC, a Role-play Facilitator, or a Guide, you have an amazing time at the event.

If you’re interested in becoming part of the team, make sure to fill out this form. We’ll be accepting submissions until October 3rd, after which we’ll announce our team members.

We hope you’re excited. This is shaping up to be an amazing event; we’ll see you at Downfall!
